Big Brands, Big Savings

lowcost-in-spainSome of the major electronics brands now have an online clearance section or sell refurbished items that come with a guarantee. Buying one of these items can result in considerable savings, so we’ve checked which brands in Spain include these items on their websites.

The Sony Store Outlet offers refurbished tablets, phones, TVs and more. Most items come with the standard Sony guarantee and free delivery. Savings when compared with prices as-new are considerable, check availability under each item (look for “disponible”).

The Sony Education Store offers a 10% discount for students and teachers. The discount is available when you purchase tablets, TVs, cameras, Xperia smartphones and more. In order to access the website you need to register first with your full name and educational centre. Discounts for students and teachers are only available online, not in stores.

Philips has a clearance section online (no refurbished goods) with a selection of items. Items can be filtered by price but not by category and savings of up to 30% were available at the time of writing this article. Standard delivery is free on orders over 50€.

If it’s the first time you visit their website, normally a pop-up will appear where you can sign up for their newsletter to get a 10% discount code. Once you’ve signed-up the code will appear on the screen, so either write it down or take a screenshot.

Apple’s online store in Spain offers refurbished iPods, iPads, Macs and accessories. All items come with a one-year guarantee and the option of contracting the Apple Care Protection Plan.

Offers for students and teachers are normally available only in the summer, check our post on the Apple Education Store for more info.

Although not a brand itself, Fnac has added a “low cost” section to their website that includes 3 types of items:

  • “Caja abierta” – the box has been opened but the items have not been used.
  • “Reacondicionado” – items that have been refurbished and are in full working order
  • “Liquidación” – clearance items

In each of the three sections, you can search for items by type eg computers, sound, vision.

Also read our post on the Fnac Store Card to see if it’s worthwhile getting one.

MSS Tip:

Remember that items in these sections tend to be sold out quickly and new ones can appear at any time. If you don’t see anything interesting on your first visit, remember to check back a couple of weeks later.

We also checked out Panasonic, Samsung, Bosch and LG but couldn’t find refurbished or clearance items on their Spanish sites, although they may include them in the future.
