Ten Useful Spanish Post Office Services
You’ve probably wasted lots of time at Correos waiting in the queue just to send a single letter. But, to be fair, your local Post Office offers plenty of really useful (and cheap) services. Here’s ten of interest for anyone living in Spain.
Personalised Stamps and Postcards
You can design your own stamps with a photo or logo via Correos “TuSello” service. The minimum order is only 25 stamps, so why not surprise friends and families with photos of your pet, a birthday invitation and much more?
Prices are composed of the service charge and the face value of the stamps, depending on whether you want to use them for national, European or international postage. You can also get a 10% discount if you purchase a minimum of two sheets of stamps. If the letter or package weighs more than the basic postage rate, you’ll have to make up the difference with normal stamps.
When you send your design or photo to Correos via their website, they have the right to reject it – in this case your money will be fully refunded. If accepted you’ll get your order by urgent mail.
Eco-Friendly Boxes and Envelopes
No more time wasted searching for a box as the Post Office sells their own Caja Verde range in different sizes:
- Rectangular boxes in five sizes: small to extra large
- Boxes for 1 or 3 bottles
- Trapezium-shaped boxes
- Bike box
The advantage of using these boxes is that they are both ecological (hence the “green” label) and reinforced. Prices for national postage start at less than 3€ for a small box.
Envelopes in various sizes are also available and include semi-rigid, padded and security ranges.
If you’ve ever returned from your holiday to find that rainwater has got into your letter box and your favourite magazine is soaking wet, then you’ll probably be interested in the “Buzón de Vacaciones” (Holiday Letter Box) service.
Your local post office will keep all your post for the time you’re away. Minimum service is one week, maximum 14 weeks, choose whether to pick up from time to time or at the end of the contracted service (or get it delivered).
Prices are 12.18€ for the first week and 6.09€ for each additional week for a maximum of six people at the same address.
Travelling by Train? Try Correos Luggage Service
When you buy a Renfe ticket (AVE or long distance trains) you can send up to three items of luggage including bikes, golf clubs or skis. The weight limit for each item is 25 kg and it normally takes two days for the items to be delivered. You can arrange for your items to be collected up to four days before you travel and you don’t have to send them to the same destination as shown on your ticket.
Prices start at 20€ (or 26€ for special items) with a 20% discount on second and third items – you can check the final price with the online calculator shown on Renfe’s website.
Correos also offers a dedicated service for transporting backpacks for people traveling on the Camino de Santiago.
Not just stamps, but first day covers, coins and more. Take a look at the online catalogues for details of items available.
Prepaid cards are the easy way to avoid problems with fraudulent use of a normal Visa or MasterCard and are a great way to pay online. The card costs 6€ and top-ups in any Correos office cost 1€. Check our post for more prepaid card options.
Immediate Document Delivery to the Spanish Public Administration
If you need to send documentation to the Spanish Public Administration, at the Post Office they will scan the pages, officially register the document and send it electronically during your visit.
Prices are based on the number of pages scanned and your location. From under 4€ for up to 5 pages on mainland Spain.
Legal Burofax Online Service
An online service also available at Correos if you want to queue! Their burofax online service is valid for pdf documents only – if registered before 13:00 delivery takes places the same day to major Spanish towns and cities, otherwise your document will be delivered the next day. International delivery is also available, times vary by country.
Prices start at 7.60€ (fixed price) plus additional amounts per page and type of service required.
If you’re fed up of waiting for couriers to deliver parcels when shopping online, consider using a CityPaq locker. Available across Spain (except Canary Islands) in locations including:
- Train and metro stations
- Supermarkets and shopping centres
- Petrol stations
- Large housing communities
Check online for a location near you.
All Spanish registered vehicles must have an eco-label, sent out free of charge in 2017. However as it was still not mandatory to use them, many have mislaid their label.
In order to request one, take your vehicle permit (licencia de circulación) and pay 5€ at your local Correos. The label will take around 4 days to arrive.
As of the date of this post, placing the label on your vehicle windscreen is still voluntary. However some cities in Spain may start to limit vehicle access based on these labels in the near future.
