When is a private company not private? Ask Madrid’s Tourist Office!
I’d already been in the Tourist Office on many occasions looking at what type of info they had available. Along with the typical flyers on museums, tours, etc there seemed to be plenty on offer from private companies. So, I contacted their representative and sent along a copy of the MSS flyer for them to authorise it. Back came the reply that they can’t put private advertising leaflets in their offices to not favour any company over another.
Fair enough, but when I asked why they had leaflets for Companies X, Y and Z their reply was “because they offer a unique service / product”. Apparently if your company has a unique service they’ll accept your advertising, but as soon as you have a competitor they stop advertising your company. I could even accept this, but then what about the theatres and other shows for which you can find leaflets? Obviously you’re never going to find two theatres with the same show on – a nice loophole to get free advertising.
So, it’s back to stage 1, looking for lowcost marketing initiatives to allow MSS to continue to offer its readers the latest and best deals that Spain has to offer. Any suggestions by email: .
