Buying shoes online is gaining in popularity, one of the reasons being that with free delivery and returns all the risk is taken out of the purchase. So, until Zappos reaches Spain we’ll just have to check out what other companies are worthwhile using. We’ve detailed the terms and conditions for each site’s returns policy as each one differs. See what we’ve got in our round-up, which includes an iconic UK brand, major international brands and more.

Make sure that you visit Clarks EU site (Link to homepage) and not their UK site, as by using their EU site you’ll get free home delivery on all your orders. Also, sign up for their newsletter and you’ll also get 10€ off your first order. Delivery is between 3 to 5 working days for Spain and the Balearic Islands (no mention of the Canary Islands). Returns are also free as long as these are within 60 days of purchase, just use their free TNT courier collection service (if you decide to return items by post, you’ll have to pay the cost).

Clarks also has a multi-lingual free phone service, so for any queries you can just give them a call.

Spartoo has plenty of brands to choose from such as Geox, Timberland, Reebok and plenty more. If you register for their newsletter you’ll get 5€ off your first order and information on promos. Also if you take part in their questionnaire you’ll get a 10€ voucher to send on any purchase over 50€ (valid for 3 months, can’t be used in conjunction with other offers). Delivery is free on the Spanish mainland (no mention of Islands) and you can register up to 5 different addresses with your account, but if you want quicker courier delivery (2 days) the cost is 15€. Returns are also free as long as the items have not been worn, to return an item you’ll have to log onto your account, fill in a form and you’ll get a label by email to attach to the parcel to take to your local post office.

Similar to the previous sites, Fosco offers 5€ off if you sign up to their newsletter and free delivery and returns. Delivery is via the Punto Pack system which delivers to one of over 1000 collection points near where you live on the mainland or the Balearic Islands – don’t forget to take some type of identification to pick up your parcel. Items can be returned free within 15 days by using the same free Punto Pack service option (or pay 3.20€ if using the post office).

Check out their outlet for discounts of 30% on a selection of items.

We discovered this company which is a little bit different to the others as it only has women’s shoes and all are priced at 39.99€. If you visit www.fabshoes.es and register you’ll be invited to fill in a questionnaire and then every month you’ll receive an email with suggestions for shoes and accessories that would suit you, additionally they have a competition on at the moment with great prizes. Delivery of your order will be to a Kiala pick-up point (for locations just put your post code here). Returns are free if you opt to exchange your shoes for another size or model, but if you decide you want your money back you’ll have to pay 4.99€ admin charge.

Offers in Madrid

As Money Saver Spain is based in Madrid, we are often contacted by companies who have special offers but only in the Madrid area. Here’s a couple of them:

We were contacted by Home Essentials about their latest offer for furniture rental in the Madrid area. Prices range from 160€ per month for a one-bed flat up to 250€ per month for a 3-bed flat. Check full details of their offer here.

Corporanza is a company that offers ecological cleaning in a variety of areas (offices, homes, removal of graffitti, etc). They’ve sent us a special offer to clean mattresses so they’re free of dust mites and other dirt (apparently an average mattress can hold up to a kilo of stuff that shouldn’t be there!). Just quote code MSS to get the special rates shown on this attachment.

Special Discounts For Families with 3 or More Children in Spain

In Spain any family that has 3 or more children is entitled to many benefits ranging from discounts on travel, at theme parks, free museum entry, help with schooling costs and much more. Although some benefits depend on where you live, most are nationwide. Also many companies are starting to see this niche as an area to aim their promotions.

First of all you’ll have to request a card. Of course, no-one likes bureaucracy but it’s definitely worthwhile taking the trouble as all these benefits are valid until your oldest child is 21, unless in full-time education when the validity will be extended until the child’s 25 birthday. Additionally the child(ren) must depend economically on their parent(s) or have earnings below the statutory minimum wage level.

There are two categories of “familia numerosa”:

Special: Families with 5 or more children / 4 children if includes triplets or multiple adoptions
General: Families with 3 or more children / 2 children if single parent is a widow(er) / 2 children if one has a disability

In order to get a card, see the list here for where to apply in your region. Regarding paperwork that has to be presented, don’t worry if you don’t have a Spanish “family book” (Libro de Familia) as you can present your children’s birth certificates.

What benefits can you get? Below is a list of some of the more popular discounts:

National rail travel: 20% off Renfe tickets with General Card and 50% off with Special Card.
National air travel in Spain with Iberia: 5% off with General Card and 10% off with Special Card
Store and supermarket savings: Carrefour VAT reduction for card holders)
Reductions on taxes, eg when buying a car with 5 or more seats then the “impuesto de matriculación” is reduced by 50%.
Preferential access to grants (university fees) and reduction on cost of school text books
Discounts on some cars (may need to be member of Familias Numerosas organisation – currently offers up to 20% off at Land Rover)
Discounted or free entry to museums, auditoriums and theatres (state owned)
Reduced prices at theme parks, zoos, etc (check conditions)
MRW courier offers 1 courier service per month (one parcel) to Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar or Andorra for only 1€. Weight limit 5 k (or 2k for Balearic or Canary Islands)

So, as you can see, it’s definitely worthwhile taking the trouble to get a card. And when you’ve got one, make sure you ask wherever you go if they have any special deals for card holders.

Jewellery Discounts

You might not be aware that stores have a mark up of at least 150% on wholesale prices for jewellery and at certain times in the year there are never any offers to be found (Xmas and Valentine’s Day). So, plan ahead for special dates and check out offers in the outlets of major brands. Offers change on a regular basis, depending on stocks, so if you don’t see anything you like today remember to check back a few weeks later.

If you go onto their home page, you’ll see a link to their “online outlet” page on the left-hand side. Reductions are around 50% with free standard shipping on all orders over 75€. Swarovski home page link:

At the time of writing, for some reason if you put the home page in English the link to outlet jewellery isn’t working. So, just click on the logo below then on “mujer”, “outlet”, “joyas” to see the items. Most items have a 50% discount and delivery charges in Spain are 8€ (standard delivery, 4 to 5 days).
