Saving at Amazon Spain
Before buying at Amazon Spainit makes sense to compare prices online for more expensive items. Try a comparison site such as Kelkoo (take delivery charges into account) or check directly at El Corte Ingles, Media Markt and Worten.
Even better, download the app for Amazon Spain and when you’re out shopping use the app to scan barcodes to check the price on Amazon. If it’s cheaper, you can order it directly via the app.
Delivery Charges At Amazon Spain
Standard delivery (mainland and Balearic Islands) is 2.99€, or free if you spend 19€ on books (or 29€ on other items).
If your shopping basket total is around the 25€ mark, it may by a good idea to add another small-value item to avoid the delivery charge, or check out Amazon Prime (see below).
Remember that you can choose a pick-up point rather than your home address if this is more convenient. There are over 5700 pick-up points such as newspaper kiosks, book shops, florists and more – just access your account, choose one and add to your address book.
Amazon is also testing Amazon Lockers, more news to come later this year.
You can try Amazon Prime free for 30 days. Get unlimited free deliveries for items sold by Amazon (not third party sellers) on mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands within 1 day. For the Canary Islands it takes from 5 to 13 days.
At only 19.95€/year it’s worth it if you buy often and really want quick delivery, otherwise remember to diarise to cancel.
Delivery is available from Mon-Sat or you can set it up for only Mon-Fri deliveries. If you won’t be at home you can use Kiala or Celeritas pick-up points or go along to your local Seur or Correos office.
More perks include:
- Free photo storage on Amazon Cloud Drive
- Amazon Family discounts
- Flash offers 30 minutes before non-Prime members
- Twitch Prime (gaming)
Prime members get access to Prime Video with free films and series. Not as complete as Netflix or HBO, but as Amazon Prime is relatively cheap it’s a good additional feature.
All programmes are available in English, some with subtitles in other languages. Download the Prime Video app (in English) on your laptop, tablet and phone to access content wherever you are.
You can also download content to see when offline or without WiFi, for example on a flight.
Great for heavy and/or bulky items, Amazon Spain’s supermarket offers non-perishable foods, drinks and cleaning products. Prices compare favourably with other Spanish supermarkets and you can get free 1-day delivery if you’re an Amazon Prime member.
Watch out for “Producto Plus” items – these are low value items and can only be included with orders over 19€ .
Subscribe and Save Service
With their new 2017 Suscríbete y Ahorra service you can get discounts on items that you buy often, along with free delivery.
Choose the items and frequency, get email reminders and confirm or cancel deliveries. Note that prices are NOT fixed, but in the email sent out before delivery you’ll be informed of the current price for each product on your list.
Discounts: With 1 or 2 subscriptions you’ll get 5% off, from the third delivery in the same month the discount increases to 10%.
Only for Prime members (see above), dash buttons can be used for items such as detergent, nappies, dishwasher tabs, toilet tissue and more. Buttons cost 4.99€ which is reimbursed after the first use.
Don’t worry about kids (or anyone else) pushing the button, during set-up you can request to receive notifications before orders are sent out.
Amazon has started to roll out their Prime Now service. Currently only available for Amazon Prime members in Madrid and Barcelona (cities and nearby towns) with charges of 5.90€ for delivery in one hour or no charge for 2-hour delivery. Delivery is available from 8:00 to midnight with a minimum 19€ order. Available via the Prime Now app for Android and iOS.
It’s not easy to see what the main advantages of using Amazon Pantry would be, but in order for you to make up your own mind here are the details:
- Choose items from the Amazon Pantry range (branded, non-perishable, mid-range goods)
- Fill a virtual box with goods (online you can check how full the box is)
- Pay a flat rate of 3.99€ for box delivery (even for Prime members)
You may find promos that allow for free delivery from time to time.
Get free MP3s
If you purchased any CDs or vinyl records from Amazon.es in the past you can download the MP3 version free (even if you bought them as gifts for others).
Nearly all new CD purchases also come with the MP3 download immediately available.
Kindle Readers and eBooks
Due to copyright laws, the download of ebooks is normally limited to the country where your Kindle is registered. However at Amazon.es you can find 1000’s of ebooks in English. Check out their ebooks in Englishon offer, with many books available from 0.99€ (books change monthly).
If you bought your Kindle in another country, you can re-register it in Spain – take a look at the explanation about how to do this on Amazon’s UK site.
If you read books in Spanish, it’s also a good idea to take a look at their Kindle Flash offers – one heavily discounted book every day.
All refurbished items offered by Amazon have been fully checked and also include “open box” items (haven’t been used, but can’t be sold as new). All come with a full 30-day return period.
As well as electronic items you can also find music, DVD’s & blu-rays, home appliances and toys.
Amazon Spain Outlet
Once again, don’t just assume that Amazon Spain’s outlet prices will be the cheapest, it pays to shop around. You can check items on offer in any of the 18 different departments or by customer rating.
Get 5GB free storage (enough for around 2000 photos) or store videos up to 20 mins in length. You can then access your photos and videos from any PC, tablet or smartphone.
- If you don’t have, or don’t want to buy, a Kindle, why not download the free kindle app for iPad or Android.
- If you’ve never used Amazon.es but already have an account at another European Amazon site you can use the same email and password.
- Amazon Spain offers their help pages in English, where you can also find information about delivery charges in Spain and abroad.
